How I Found Hope

I created this book and stuffed animal in Hope’s honor to share her story and remind people that pit bulls are not the villains they’re often made out to be. Once known as “nanny dogs” for their loving and protective nature, pit bulls like Hope show us what loyalty, compassion, and second chances truly mean.

A Word From The Author

On a cold January morning in 2010, while on patrol in Mount Hope, I was waved down by a driver on a snowy road. That’s when I first saw her — a thin, shivering pit bull puppy, clearly mistreated but full of life. Before I could even react, she jumped right into my patrol car as if she knew she was finally safe.

I took her to the Port Jervis Humane Society and told the staff that if no one came for her, I would. Five days later, I brought her home and named her Hope — because that’s exactly what she gave me. Despite her past, she was pure love. She fit right in with my two tiny chihuahuas, Bobbi and Junior, never showing an ounce of aggression — only kindness and gratitude.

For 15 beautiful years, Hope was my constant companion. She greeted everyone she met with joy, rolling over for belly rubs and lighting up every family gathering with her playful spirit. Hope taught me about resilience, forgiveness, and unconditional love.

In April 2025, she crossed the rainbow bridge after a lifetime of bringing happiness to everyone around her. Her memory still fills my home — in her toys, her pawprints, and the love she left behind.
